A sawzall might get it done faster.

Yeah, I was about to grab one but decided to tough it out instead.

Honestly, the sawzall is probably my favorite tool ever. I used to be a mechanic for 5 years, and I got a deal on one from the tool truck guy. Came with a bunch of spare blades too. Seven years later, it’s still cutting through everything like butter.

You know what? I might just grab one after all… pretty sure I’ll have to deal with the other side anyway.
There are tons of videos online about doing ball joints on a Liberty. Check those out.
I’ve got a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The guy at Valvoline today said my oil filter or oil cooler is leaking. He told me to take it to the dealer since they don’t replace it there. Can a regular mechanic fix this? Thanks in advance!
@Koa
You should figure out if he said oil filter or oil cooler. The oil cooler is like a small radiator, while the oil filter is much simpler to replace. Maybe ask someone you know who’s good with cars to check it out first.
I’m a mechanic and I own that same Maddox tool. If you think it’s too small for the job, you might be using it wrong.

It’s specific to the first-gen Jeep Liberty. You have to press the ball joint out of the spindle and up through the control arm, so you’re dealing with the spacer length and the whole spindle. A bigger C-clamp might work, but I saw a TRQ video where the guy did it exactly the way I did.
@Whitney
I know what you mean. I’ve never had to cut one in half, though.
