My check engine light turned on last night. I got a scanner, and it shows the code “P0132,” which means there’s high voltage in the oxygen sensor circuit for bank 1, sensor 1. This is my first time working under the hood of a Jeep, so can you help me understand what this means?
I often see oxygen sensors fail on these vehicles. I recommend replacing all of them at the same time; otherwise, you might run into more issues later. OEM sensors are the best choice. I’ve had more problems with aftermarket sensors.
Any ideas on the circuit high voltage bank 1 sensor 1 part of the code?
The scanner is saying that your bank 1, sensor 1 oxygen sensor is bad. “Bank 1, sensor 1” just tells you where the bad sensor is located.
Okay, that sounds a lot less scary than what the scanner said. Thank you very much!
It could be a problem with the sensor or the wiring.
The issue is that the PCM is only getting a high voltage reading. The problem could be where Finallyajeep mentioned or with the wiring connected to the sensor.
It’s possible that the wiring between the connector and the oxygen sensor has melted and shorted out.
Check all the wiring for the sensor, especially in areas where it might touch the exhaust. Make sure to clean the connector plugs well.
If those two things don’t fix it, then you might need a new sensor. NTK sensors are supposed to be good replacements and you can find them at RockAuto or other places.
I had a chance to check under the hood. It looks like when the last owner replaced the sensor last month to pass the smog test, they didn’t secure it properly. Because of that, it got damaged by the steering box, and the connector and wires got torn off. So, it stopped working! Thanks for the help; I put a new sensor in, and the code is gone! You guys are great!
I just put a 1999 Cherokee on the road for my daughter. It’s bucking and showing the PO132 code. Could the fuel filter be clogged? After it sits for a few minutes, it starts and runs fine, but then it starts bucking again. It can happen after 10 minutes or even 2 days.
If the Check Engine Light is ON, your Jeep is trying to tell you there’s a problem. You can find out what’s wrong by checking the trouble codes. The O2 sensor usually lasts about 100,000 to 150,000 miles, and many XJ Cherokees have a cracked exhaust manifold.
P0132 JEEP - O2 Sensor Circuit High Bank 1 Sensor 1
Possible causes
- Faulty Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1
- Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 wire harness is open or shorted
- Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 wire plugs poor electrical connection
- Faulty fuel injectors
- Intake air leaks
- Exhaust manifold leaks
