I recently installed a 3" coil spacer kit on my 1997 Laredo. This morning, I tried to go to work, but every time I encountered a bump or a pothole in the road, the steering wheel and front end began to shake violently until I stopped. This was happening at a modest 10 to 15 mph. Everything went OK until I struck another bump after I pulled back out. Is there anyone with any ideas? This was not the case before to lift.
Take note of the fact that I did not install a T-case drop kit. The lift only included coil springs, which I found odd considering that my Wrangler only had a 3" raise and even had a t-case drop. I would be very grateful for any assistance.
The signs and symptoms you’ve described are called “death wobble.” Do you know what the phrase means?
What else did you put as part of your lift configuration, outside the 3" spacers? Are you saying that the stock shocks are still being used? And the front stock trackbar? Is the shock that came with your steering stabilizer original?
@Bella Yes, I am certain that I have heard the word since I recently acquired a Laredo after owning a Wrangler for a time. I had always assumed that death wobble happened at faster speeds, but it appears that this is the case—if so, it’s a pretty severe instance. That’s also accurate; except from the coil spring spacer blocks, everything is stock.
