I’m new to this whole car trouble thing, so bear with me. I’ve got a Jeep that’s been running fine for years, but recently it started acting up. I took it to the mechanic and they said it’s throwing a P0301 code. I have no idea what that means! I’ve tried looking it up online, but it’s all technical jargon.
Has anyone else dealt with this code before? Any advice on what I should do? I’m worried about spending a fortune at the mechanic
When I bought my 1999 TJ, P0301 codes were also an issue. It would reappear after I cleared it, generally when the engine was cold. I tried swapping out the distributor cap, rotor, and plugs but to no avail. But when I drove it more regularly over time, and after a few oil changes, it ceased to throw the P0301 error. My hypothesis is that I had a sticky valve, which was released by frequent driving and oil changes. According to what I hear, the car was not driven on a regular basis by the former owner.
