Ignition switch

A button has been installed in my 2001 Grand Cherokee to start the vehicle.
Actually, it means that when you turn the key, everything on the dashboard lights up, but nothing happens. To solve this, a push-button switch has been installed, and every time it starts, everything functions as it should and drives flawlessly. I’m not sure why this would have been done; are the ignition switches prone to malfunctions or may there be a wiring issue? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I have no concrete knowledge of the issue but I believe that the push-button switch was installed as a workaround for an issue with the ignition switch or related wiring in your 2001 Grand Cherokee.

The possibilities include:

  • Ignition switch failure: The ignition switch in your vehicle might be faulty. Common symptoms include the car not starting, stalling, or intermittent loss of power to accessories. This could explain why the dashboard lights up but the engine doesn’t crank when you turn the key.
  • Wiring issues: There could be a problem with the wiring between the ignition switch and the starter motor or other components. This might include loose connections, corroded wires, or a faulty relay.
  • Bypassing the problem: Installing a push-button switch is a way to bypass the faulty ignition switch or wiring. This allows you to start the vehicle directly by providing power to the starter motor.
