How to set up Bike Rack with Towing Package (Jeep Grand Cherokee)?

Hey everyone, sorry if this isn’t the right place to ask, but I could really use some advice.

I got a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee High Altitude last year, complete with a towing package. I’ve got a Kuat Sherpa 2.0 bike rack that I’m trying to use, but it’s causing a few issues.

When the bike rack is attached, the rear trigger and lane change lights are constantly on. And backing up is a nightmare with all the warning noises going off. It’s definitely the bike rack causing it.

We had similar problems with our old Jeep Cherokee when I added an aftermarket tow package. It worked fine, but those warning sounds were annoying.

Now, our new Jeep has this electric brake kit cable that I think is for applying electric brakes to a trailer. I’m wondering if I can use this cable, or another one, to stop my car from freaking out about nothing being behind me. Also, could I use it to connect rear tail lights to the bike rack?

Any suggestions or advice would be awesome.

Thanks, Jase

Here’s an idea: you could try using that cable to connect your rear tail lights to the bike rack. That way, when the rack is attached, it’ll be like an extension of your Jeep’s lighting system. It might help alleviate the issues you’re experiencing with the warning noises and constant lights.

Of course, it’s always a good idea to double-check with a professional or someone who knows their way around vehicle modifications just to be safe. But hey, experimenting and finding creative solutions is part of the fun, right?
