How often should I change the oil in a Jeep Cherokee?

Hello guys, I got a 2021 Grand Cherokee last month, and the manual says to change the oil when the car tells you to. My old car also had an oil change reminder, but its manual gave a rough idea of around 10,000 miles. Does anyone know if there’s an official recommended interval for the Grand Cherokee? If not, what interval have you found works best? Thanks.

If someone would like to read the owner’s manual, it states to always follow the oil change indicator, but never go beyond 10,000 miles or a year. Additionally, 350 hours of engine run time are mentioned (especially for fleet vehicles).

Of course, there are many viewpoints and never-ending debates over this topic. And some individuals are so foolish as to put off changing oil when it should. Since I am aware that the factory puts a lot of effort into developing its suggestions, I personally abide by them. It makes sense to change it more frequently, just as it makes sense to use higher-octane fuel even when it’s not necessary.

I just got my 2021 Grand Cherokee last month, and I’m absolutely loving it! However, I’m a bit confused about the oil change intervals. The manual says to change the oil when the car tells you to, which is new for me. My old car had an oil change reminder too, but the manual also suggested around 10,000 miles as a guideline.

Thankfully, my friend who’s a bit of a car guru gave me some great tips. He explained that modern cars, like our Grand Cherokee, have advanced sensors that monitor oil quality, engine conditions, and driving habits to determine the best time for an oil change. So, it’s pretty reliable to follow the car’s reminder. However, he also mentioned that it’s a good practice to check the oil level and quality periodically, especially if you do a lot of driving in harsh conditions or heavy traffic.

For me, I’m planning to stick to the car’s reminder system but also keep an eye on the oil every few thousand miles just to be safe. It’s reassuring to know the car will notify me, but having a little manual check doesn’t hurt. I’m still figuring things out, but so far, this approach feels right. Loving the Jeep life and looking forward to many smooth rides ahead!

If you trust that your car has no underlying mechanical issues, just wait till it demands the oil change as advised in the car manual.
But if you don’t want to trust your car, you can change your oil at around 7000 yo 90000 miles for better performance.
