Has anyone upgraded the lights on an older CJ? Looking to make mine brighter but not sure where to start. Any help is much appreciated.
Look up the Kioto or check out Daniel Stern’s glass headlights with a battery harness.

Thanks for the suggestion!
Adding relays and better wiring can help. I did a Hella H4 conversion kit, got the E-code ones instead of DOT, but who’s gonna notice, right? Massive improvement.
Just make sure you aim them right, too.
@Jules
Totally agree, E-code bulbs make a big difference! Plus, with all the bright LED headlights out there, cops don’t really notice if E-codes aren’t technically legal.

Good point! Appreciate the advice.
Sometimes I feel like I could just put a match in front of mine to see if they’re actually on! /s

Haha, feels like that sometimes!
You should use relays instead of running high voltage through the switch. There are lots of guides on forums about this. Here’s one to check out: http://www.earlycj5.com/xf_cj5/index.php?threads/124443/
@Pax
Thanks, that’s super helpful!
No problem! I did this on my YJ and it made a big difference. Amazon has pre-made harnesses if you’re interested https://a.co/d/21ju9gx
@Pax
Is that harness all I need?
You might want to find one specifically made for Jeeps to make it easier.

Good call! I’ll look for one.
Maybe try J.W. Speaker LED headlights? They use less power than the original halogens, so no extra relays or wiring needed. I’ve got some on mine, and they’re awesome.
