First vs Current Cars... 23 Years Apart?

Here are some pics of my first car, a 1994 ZJ 4.0 (Top), and my current ride, a 1995 ZJ 5.2 (Bottom). These photos were taken exactly 23 years apart, even though it was snowing and icy this week! What a difference the years have made!

Love this! What lift and tire size did you use?

When I first got my original car, it had 215’s that were a bit small. My current one has 235’s, both were stock height. I did add 245’s and a 2-inch lift to my original car, but I can’t find any pictures of it with the lift and bigger tires.

ZJs are awesome, and yours looks great!

Wow, this reminds me of my old 97 Orvis. Love your Jeep!

Had an old Orvis too, it was great in the snow. Can’t figure out why the auto-dimming rearview mirror isn’t standard anymore.

How’s the 5.2 engine? I have a WJ with a 4.7 and would love a ZJ!

I love the extra power the 5.2 gives compared to the 4.0. I’ve replaced most of the major parts over time and upgraded anything that needed it.

This is wholesome content right here!

My dad got his 96 ZJ when he started hunting in Mexico. In 2015, his mechanic offered him 2k for it, but I bought it for 1k. Now it has 127k miles, and I recently replaced the headliner and cerakoted the bumpers. The mechanic offered me 5k for it now! It needs a new transmission eventually, but that’s still cheaper than replacing it. Still have the original sales sticker.

Love it! I miss my '95 Orvis.

Really miss my '95 ZJ 5.2. Enjoy yours!

I lost my virginity in a 94 ZJ. Great times.

Nice! I had a 98 Grand Cherokee Overland V8 (5.2). That thing was a blast!

Saw my old ZJ last week. I got it 20 years ago, then gave it to my brother 5 years ago. He left it in the woods by a friend’s house when he went to prison. It was trashed, bumpers missing, and inside full of rodents. Someone towed it to my mom’s house last week, and when I saw it there, I felt sad seeing what had become of it. It’s an early 93 with the AW4 transmission and has almost 600k miles on the original engine. It’s a real testament to the durability of these Jeeps.

Can you share pictures of how those fog lights are mounted? Are they drilled into the steel box behind the bumper cover?

Yeah, I think that’s how they’re mounted. The bumper has a notch in it from the factory.

How many transmissions have you gone through?

I’ve replaced it twice. The first one lasted 28 years and 95K miles. Still using the original NP249 Transfer Case!

Nice! I had to replace two on my 04 Grand Cherokee before I sold it.
