2010 Jeep Wrangler 3.8L Oil Type

Hey everyone, I have a 2010 Jeep Wrangler with a 3.8-liter engine. I’m planning to change the oil, and usually, I use the recommended 5W20 oil. But this time, I’m thinking about using Shell Rotella T6 15W40 diesel oil instead. Do you think that’s a bad idea? I’ve been using it in my motorcycle without any issues, so I’m curious about your thoughts. What kind of oil do you use?

Hey Mason! For your 2010 Jeep Wrangler, it’s best to stick with the recommended 5W20 oil. Using Shell Rotella T6 15W40 might not be ideal for your engine and could affect its performance. I use 5W20 in mine and haven’t had any issues. Better safe than sorry!

I’m not clear why you would vary from the viscosity specifications set by the engine designers. Many years ago, it was customary to use a somewhat thicker oil on automobiles that were burning oil owing to worn rings.

Some individuals utilise 5w30 or 10w30.

How many kilometres does it have? Is it smoking or burning oil? Are there any odd noises?

Discussing brands is pointless since everyone has a favourite brand, and everyone claims to have indisputable proof that theirs is superior.

When it comes to your 2010 Jeep Wrangler with a 3.8-liter engine, the manufacturer’s recommended oil is SAE 5W-20. This specification is designed to provide the right balance of lubrication, efficiency, and protection for your engine under normal operating conditions.
