What is a Slip Yoke Eliminator and do I need one?

I’ve inherited an '87 YJ, 4.2L, I-6. The rear differential blew up, so I’ve torn it apart and have a new 3.73 set coming in (upgrading from the original 3.55). The rear drive shaft is missing. Since I’m working on it now, should I install a slip yoke eliminator (SYE)? The Jeep doesn’t have a lift, but we may add a 3" lift in the future. I’d prefer to do the drive shaft once rather than replacing nearly new parts later. What do you suggest? Should I install the SYE now, or wait until it’s lifted?

Putting in the SYE now seems like the better long-term choice since you’re already working on the rear engine and planning a lift for the future. In the long run, it will save you time and work.

It’s totally up to you! If you’re on a tight budget and plan to keep the Jeep unlifted, you can hold off on the SYE for now. But if you think a lift is in the cards, or you just want the extra security, installing the SYE now might be a smart move.

hi angie sands yes its definition is,A Slip Yoke Eliminator (SYE) is a modification kit designed for specific vehicles with a transfer case that utilizes a slip yoke.
