Does anyone know the model of this 1976 CJ5?
I also want to change the transmission oil. What gear oil do you recommend?
Thanks!

@Quade
Here’s the VIN: J6M83AA058159. It’s an I6.
@Quade
Thanks for that! Made me check mine. The normal Mopar decoder doesn’t like the 13 char VIN.
J means Jeep, 5 is for 1975, F is 3-speed, 83 is CJ-5, A is 3,750 lbs GVW, and H means 304ci, 2 bbl.
@Quade
Cool, thanks for the info! So is it an '83 or a '76? I’m confused about the 83(CJ5) you mentioned. Also, does it say the motor size for the I6 in this year?
What a rig you have! You should consider an LS swap.

The original motor runs strong. One owner had it for 44 years and it only has 70k miles. I just love the I6.

FSJ V8s have really changed my view lol.
@Quinn
I can only imagine how powerful an LS would be on this! That would be amazing.

Spinning the tires while downshifting at 45 mph never gets old.
I really love it!
That’s a cool Jeep to start with. Those steps are pretty unusual. Haha.
I like the switch mounted to the glovebox bar. What does it do?

It’s a kill switch. It won’t start unless it’s on, and if it’s off, you can’t turn it on or off, keys or no keys.
Nice ride!
Great ride! I had one of those when I was younger! Brings back such good memories!
