Is this still usable or just scrap?

This is my rear driveshaft from my 2010 Wrangler. It snapped at the u-joint while I was driving, but I stopped before it fully gave out. Is this fixable or should I just scrap it?

@Clancy
Could it be bad bearings overheating?

Might cost you as much to fix it as buying a new one. I’d probably just replace it for peace of mind, wouldn’t want another failure like that.

It’s just the female spline side. OP could get a new end, doesn’t need to replace the whole shaft.

@Kim
I’m hoping that’s all I need to do.

Yeah, just buy the new part and put it back on. You might need a new axle yoke if it’s damaged, but it’s definitely repairable. Don’t listen to anyone telling you to throw out the whole thing. That’s an expensive driveshaft.

It’s a $600 driveshaft, makes sense to try fixing it if possible.

Nah man, that’s done for.

You could take it to a salvage yard for scrap, sure. But I wouldn’t run it in your drivetrain anymore.

That driveshaft’s been neglected for sure. There’s metal missing from the ears where the cap came out, and they look bent. You could reuse it, but it’ll probably spit out u-joints again soon.

The rest of the shaft looks fine. Take it to a shop and they can replace and rebalance it.

OP, just call Adams and ask for the shaft end. That part can be replaced without needing a whole new driveshaft.

Here’s the link: Slip Yokes | AdamsDriveshaft. Measure your slip yoke and get a replacement. Adams has good stuff.

If you can, upgrade it or go OEM.

At least you can melt it down for something.

Might make a cool fire poker though.

Yeah, sorry man, that thing’s toast. Time for a new shaft.

Just weld in a new u-joint, problem solved.

Or just buy a new slip yoke.

Why not just eliminate the slip yoke entirely?
