How do I fix the U1411 engine code on a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK)?

Hi everyone,

This is my first Jeep, and I’m really enjoying it.

Last night, while driving, all the dashboard indicator lights came on and then went off, except for the check engine light, which stayed on.

This morning, I went to AutoZone, and they found the U1411 code. I looked it up online and found out it’s called an ‘Implausible Fuel Volume Signal.’

Has anyone dealt with this before?

I’m also having trouble with my blower motor selector switch. It only works on full blast. I replaced the resistor, but that didn’t fix it. I noticed that two of the terminals on the connector look a bit burnt.

This happened to me about 2 months ago and didn’t happen again until this morning on my way to work. All the lights came on like when you start your car.

I’ll fix the ignition switch eventually.

I’ve never heard of that before, but based on my troubleshooting guide, it seems like it’s a computer issue. You might need to see a dealer or a good mechanic.

It’s the ignition switch.

I’ve dealt with this before, and many others here have too. The ignition switch is a common issue with '05 WKs. I’ve had to replace mine twice. What happens is everything except the engine (and radio) shuts off, like you turned the key off, and then it all comes back on. The only error code you’ll see is U1411, “Implausible Fuel Volume Signal.”

Before doing anything else, get the ignition switch replaced. It’s a cheap fix, usually $50 or less.

Good luck!

What’s the worst thing that can happen with this problem?

Can the truck shut down?

The worst thing that could happen is you’re driving on a hot 100-degree day, and suddenly you realize it’s too quiet and you’re sweating because the AC stopped working. To get the AC back on, you’d have to pull over, turn off the car, and restart it. Then you’d be frustrated and end up getting the part replaced, just like I did. So, why wait? Next time you need an oil change, ask the shop to replace the switch while you’re there. Even better, make an appointment and tell them to order the correct Mopar part (not the defective AA version) before you come in.

Also, don’t assume a Jeep dealer will give you the right part. Mine replaced it under warranty, but they used the same defective part, so I had to replace it again. This was after I told them what needed to be done and to use the newer version. They still messed it up.

My 2005 parts manual lists the part number 04685719AB for the ignition switch. There haven’t been any updates, so you might want to check with the parts guy about what replaced it. They should automatically give you the latest version, but we all know how “should” goes.

I’m getting this code too, along with codes U110C and U110E. Will changing the ignition switch fix the U1411 code?

Yeah, the code went away after I changed the switch. When I swapped it out, I noticed that the clip has a ‘mechanical lock’ that slides in to keep the connection secure. It wasn’t pushed in all the way, which might have been the problem.

But after I replaced the switch (with a Mopar one), the code disappeared. I’m not sure about the other codes though—maybe start a new thread, and the community might be able to help more.

Yesterday and today, I was able to start the truck without the check engine light coming on, like nothing was wrong. Then I remembered someone once told me that having a bunch of keys or other stuff on the keychain can cause the ignition to not make good contact. I haven’t tried using just the key by itself yet. Has anyone else heard of this?

By the way, I do plan on replacing the ignition switch. Any suggestions on where to get it for the cheapest price? And will I need to reprogram the key?

The first problem they mentioned was having too many keys. Then, the customer accidentally hit the key with their leg. They changed the switches to fix this issue. You don’t need to do any coding because the problem is with the electrical part of the switch, not with the key’s receiver or ignition switch.
