My 2004 Grand Laredo is mine. While my other mechanic’s wife suggested between a conventional or synthetic blend, my mechanic prefers 100% synthetic. Their opinions are different. So my question is, which do you think is best for my Jeep? I’m in the Chicago/Northern Indiana region. Winters can get quite chilly. Additionally, I only travel 20 miles to work.

Hello Karie, Given your Chicago/Northern Indiana location with cold winters and your Jeep being a 2004 model, using full synthetic oil is highly recommended:
- Cold-Start Protection: Synthetic oil flows better in low temperatures, offering superior protection during cold starts.
- Engine Protection: It provides enhanced lubrication and heat dissipation compared to conventional or synthetic blend oils.
- Extended Oil Changes: Synthetic oil can often support longer intervals between oil changes.

I’m Followig for my Jeep too.
Given your location and driving conditions, I recommend using full synthetic 5W-30 oil.
Benefits of Full Synthetic Oil:
- Cold Weather Performance: The 5W rating ensures quick lubrication in cold weather, crucial for your Chicago/Northern Indiana winters.
- Engine Protection: Provides superior protection against wear, extending engine life.
- Longer Drain Intervals: Allows for extended oil change intervals, saving time and money.
- Improved Fuel Economy: Can slightly enhance fuel efficiency.
