I was hiking back from the Flatirons in Boulder and stumbled upon this cool classic Jeep during a photo shoot. It’s a 1972-1973 Jeep Commando station wagon. The owner has been working on it for the past two years and is now selling it. It’s got a roof that comes off, an 8-cylinder engine, and a 3-speed transmission with a differential gearbox. The owner had some great stories to share about it. I wish I had time to sit down and chat over coffee with him—sounds like he’s got a lot of history to tell!
Very cool. Guys like that can be really cool to just chat with. You can learn a lot from the folks who have worked and been around these Jeeps for that long.
Had a neighbor growing up who was into Jeeps like I was. My first car was an old rust bucket CJ7 and he’d come over and help with whatever dad and I were working on. Once, we’d pulled the transmission for rebuild, I got it all back in and buttoned up. Fired right up, went into gear and didn’t move an inch. Of course I was doom and gloom about it (like most 16 year olds). Knocked on his door, he came over and put the transfer case in gear and away I went, hahaha!
Oh my gosh so cute
I’d love one of these.
Goin Commando, nice.
I love old Jeeps. This one is a real beauty.
I know about SJs but I don’t know a lot about the Jeepsters. Although they used similar drivetrains. So if this is early 70s it might be a Buick 350 or AMC 360 with TH400 trans (if auto) and probably Dana 20 transfer case. Or something along those lines. Maybe Dana 27 front and Dana 44 rear? I can’t remember for sure what the Wagoneers anymore. Differential gearbox? I didn’t know that was a thing. But maybe they meant a Mile Marker overdrive.
Nice!
