Hello, I recently bought a used 2013 JGC Laredo and I’m having trouble figuring out the headlight function, especially the Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). The headlights closest to the grill have the Jeep logo stamped on them, which I understand means they are HID headlights. The low beams work with these outer headlights. However, the high beams are very bright on the inner lights closest to the grill. I haven’t been able to get the DRLs to work in any switch position, including auto or the “On” position.
I read a post suggesting that the switch needs to be in the “Off” position with the emergency brake released and the vehicle in gear for the DRLs to operate, but that didn’t help either. It almost seems like the HID lights were added as an option to this Laredo package (there’s a sticker inside the door frame indicating the vehicle has HIDs).
Any ideas on how I can activate the DRLs?

From the above explanation, it is clearly evident that you are having a bit of a challenge with the DRLs on your 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo.
Here are a few steps you can try to activate them:
- Check the Vehicle Settings:
- Enter your Jeep and turn on the ignition.
- Navigate to the “Vehicle” menu on the center screen.
- Go to “Settings” and then “Lights”.
- Look for the “Daytime Running Lights” option and ensure it is toggled on.
-
Verify the DRL Relay:
- Open the hood and locate the fuse box on the left side of the engine bay.
- Check if the DRL relay is present and properly seated. If it is missing or loose, the DRLs won’t function.
-
Correct Switch Position
- Ensure the headlight switch is in the “Off” position.
*Release the emergency brake and put the vehicle in gear. The DRLs should activate under these conditions.

Check for Aftermarket Modifications
- Since your vehicle has HID headlights, it is possible that modifications were made. Verify if the DRLs were disabled or altered during the installation of the HID lights.
