1995 Inline 6 Automatic with 78k miles… Thoughts?

Found a 1995 with 78k miles and an inline 6 automatic transmission. Looking for some advice on this one. Anyone have experience with this setup? Any red flags I should look out for before buying?

If I have to live with an automatic, I like it on the column.

Other than the usual rust issues, just make sure you’re okay with the automatic. Take it on the highway and see how it feels. The automatic is a 3-speed with no overdrive, so it can be a bit noisy since it has to run at higher RPMs. Larger tires will help lower the final drive ratio, though. Also, use a GPS to check your actual speed because the speedometer might be off a little.

Much appreciated. I have a general understanding of working on vehicles, so thankfully I’m not completely clueless, but I always appreciate the wisdom of those who’ve been doing it a lot more faithfully than me lol

Damn, I want van bucket seats for my Jeep.

ODO matches, is there any other way to check that?

That’s what I thought, but hey, never hurts to ask lol

Look for wear on the brake/accelerator pedals, the interior condition (though it might have been replaced), and the overall condition of parts. Vehicles back then were rougher on cars with only 78k miles.

Thanks, I’ll check those spots! None of the stuff I’ve seen has mentioned it, just the major rust areas on the frame and obvious things operationally.

What seats are you rocking?

Idk yet, I look at her Friday. Others in the thread are saying van seats, but I don’t know more than that yet.

Rare combo!

Take out the van seats.

So damn comfy tho :sob::sob:… agreed!

The original seats aren’t too bad.

They aren’t, but I’m also not in a rush to swap out perfectly good seats. Down the road, maybe, but right now I just want a winch and some lights for when I’m using her out on my property.

I’m glad whoever owned mine previously kept it original. I’m saving up for an 8.8 swap.

Agreed.

Eventually yes, but not a priority haha.

I met Matt in Myrtle Beach at Broadway at the Beach during Myrtle Beach Jeep Jam. He’s a pretty nice guy and loves YJ’s. Had a nice conversation about my Jeep, and he’s a genuine, down-to-earth guy.
